Adults
Gait and Balance Dysfunctions
Patients often develop gait and balance deficiencies post stroke (CVA). This type of suspension for gait training is very dynamic with just enough assistance required for safety. Patient is able to practice many challenges independently to prevent falls.
General deconditioning
Our seniors often develop weakness and deconditioning after viral infections and pneumonia.
This type of suspension facilitates weak muscle groups and active movement by way of counteracting gravitational forces acting on the body.
Functional mobility training
Patients with more severe limits in functional mobility can practice functional skills in upright position. This type of suspension facilitates diaphragmatic expansion preventing medical complications.
Low back pain
Segmental lumbar traction can be performed in different positions.
Neck pain
Patients can practice functional rotation of the neck safely and pain free with multiple pulley attachments. This type of set up allows the muscle groups to counteract the spastic tight muscle.
Frozen shoulder
Patients that experience pain often present with abnormal muscle synergies where spastic muscle causes painful movement. The use of multiple pulleys allows patients with joint conditions to perform all strengthening exercises without pain.
Osteoarthritis
Patients with arthritic conditions can exercise without putting strain on their joints. This type of suspension eliminates the compression forces on the joints.
Hip and Pelvis Trauma
Patients can start earlier rehabilitation post fractures. The right set up allows for joint alignment and stabilization during exercise to isolate any specific weak muscle or muscle group and strengthen them without affecting the fracture area.
Ankle sprains or foot drop conditions
This suspension activates weak small muscles of the ankle and balances them out pain free. This eliminates muscle guarding and causes less energy expenditure. As a result the active range of motion is recovered faster, which increases functional mobility.
Carpal tunnel dysfunction
The therapist often addresses both the neck and the shoulder. Because of the ability to change angles of resistance and position patient accordingly multiple body parts can be treated at the same time. This also decreases the length of the treatment.
Sensory integration problem
in children and adults
Ability to create a "total suspension" provides a variety of sensory diet in a fun playful way. This increases a compliancy to therapy.
Spider Cage Therapy
Another way Universal Cage Therapy can be used in treatment is called the "Spider Cage". This is a partial or full suspension in the middle of the cage unit with support maintained through elastic cords. This type of suspension is extremely dynamic and provides just the right amount of assistance needed. This allows the patient to support any movement or functional skill in an "independent" fashion!
The type of exercises performed in full or partial weight bearing allows the patient to develop a full sense of security. It also facilitates the development and mastering of functional skills (sitting, walking, standing, reaching, climbing, jumping, etc.). In this unique suspension, the patient practices different activities comfortably and securely. This helps to improve sensory integration resulting in TREMENDOUS gains in balance, coordination and function!
The ability to maintain an upright position using treatment with the Universal Cage gives the added benefit in helping to prevent osteoporosis.
If you are a person that has any of the conditions or problems we are referring to, the benefits of the Universal Cage Physical Therapy program are enormous! Help yourself by calling to arrange for a consultation and individualized treatment plan.
